How about this....

Dear Chris,

I believe that the P.O. of this car has a very different opinion on it's condition compared to the understanding we had. We did ring you several times yesterday before bidding to ascertain the value of the car and what parts were available. It would be an expensive trip from Ireland to reject the car at your premises and it would cost us both time and money. I would suggest that if you have a second confirmed bidder who has viewed the car and is happy with it that you take this offer and we can both move on. I will not be leaving negative feedback and I request you do the same.

Thanks

Ruairi

If we don't take the car, I doubt it goes to the 2nd highest bidder. As that was bidder2 if I recall correctly. I think that person put in the bid we ended up topping at a very early stage of the bidding. I bid £1850 (€2,414.94). If it comes to it, would the car be worth that?

Judging by what Barry says, he doesn't seem to be the most polite person to deal with and considering he described it badly......very badly, I would walk away.

So the original owner was selling the only good wheel left on the car?

said it was the spare and wasn`t covered in the insurance but i reckon you`ve hit the nail on the head there ...... so who`s telling the truth ???

What I did notice yesterday comparing the EBAY pictures with the magazine pictures:
- semaphores are removed from the car
- heart taillight removed from rear fender that was not hit
- all fender stone guards removed
- tachometers removed from dashboard

I was under the impression that if insurance paid out for the car (whopping £10k) you could not remove any parts as the car belongs to the insurance company...

I recommend we go with that. Nicely phrased.

There were at least a couple of fundamental facts that were confirmed by telephone before we placed a bid - that three of the four wheels were in good condition, the carbs were with the engine and the engine was in good condition. Neither of these facts appear to be correct so our bid was based on incorrect facts.

It's not looking good lads...it's an 80 mile round trip Jay has kindly offered to do to check it out,
I don't want to send him up there to confirm what we already expect...

Has he come back with some form of inventory on the car?

just got a message from justin he knows a guy who`ll check the car out for us tomorrow . can he hold on till then ?

I think we were very lucky to get a tip off before ferries, money etc and we should take it as a sign!
I'm not happy to proceed with this and will not be adding any funds to it. The whole deal is getting messy.

I can fully understand. I am obviously still interested in the parts I have my eye on, but for you guys it just don't add up anymore.

Ruairi needs to fill out a form to pull out of the deal explaining why and then no mark is put against his name. It happens a lot that an item is described incorrectly and the sale does not happen.
