I'd be up for this. I went with some Rule 6 guys in a T-25 and the ride over and back was just 1 big laugh. The Ferry ride over was so cool. Had dinner and breakfast on the boat and arrived in Liverpool at 6 am. 1 year we flew over and had arrainged to drive back in a 70 Squreback that Stevie H was going to buy. It was not up to snuff so he didn't buy it. So we had no way home. I'd noticed a 84 GTI for sale with 2 weeks MOT left on it in the carpark for 400 STG, we figured we could all pitch in and buy it cheaper than the flights home would be. Stevie offers the kid 200 Stg and buys it! We had a blast driving that thing all the way up through Scotland to catch the boat home. As we were about to go into the Ferry terminal and the Scottish lady checking our passports ( mean looking old hag) waved us through the upper radiator hose broke. I jumped out and with a borrowed knife and pliars and screwdriver cut the hose back, loosened the upper radiator clamps and tilted the radiator back enough to re attach the hose and off we went. Down time less than 5 minutes! Great thing is Stevie sold it for 800 Stg when he got it home!

great story (y)

We now have a club stand confirmed at the Volksworld 2011 show. What that means is that eircooled can display 5 VWs. There is also the option of camping at the show but these spaces fill up fast so book early to book your camper spot. With the option of 5 spaces and also camping spaces we could do a roadtrip to London.
Depending on ferry prices I might take a car and as far as I know Mac might take his van so he can fill it with parts. Anyone else?

I can get discounts sorted on the ferrie, I'll look into it. And get the 5 sorted.

Wouldn't mind bringing my own if I had the chance. How would you distribute the 5 spaces?

People nominate themselves into the hat, and we pick the 5 choice's out at the AGM?

I have never been at Volksworld show before, but I'm planning on going next year. A group of us going in a convoy would be great, so you can put me down as a maybe.

what he said ^^^^^^ ;)

you'd want to be sure your motor is up to the journey. It's a long enough haul there and back. I'd also say you'd need to make it a three or four day trip so you might be looking at Friday and Monday off work too. Just considerations before jumping in. :)

just did a quick google map there, from Portlaoise to Esher, Surrey is 660Km each way through Rosslare-Fishguard or just shy of 700Km each way through Holyhead. That's quite a round trip trek in an auld VW with no heating and choppy suspension

for the record, I won't be going. :(

I think we should put a cut off date as these spaces are in demand so if we're not going to take them it's only fair to offer them to other clubs, probably UK based clubs who might find it easier to get there. Maybe the end of the month?

Yeap, considering some folk wont travel to shows outside their county!!! Ive done that kinda milage in the Oval in one day but I doubt I'd do it just to go to Volksworld, theres no room in it to carry anything back, no heaters, no radio, no bed! Add that to ferry and fuel and I'll be saving my money and days off for a trip to EBi or Spa! Id rather drive to Action and fly to Volksworld!

Having been left stranded onthe M25 in an over heating golf on a similar run, its no fun when it goes wrong!

I think I'll give Volksworld a miss this time round, especially driving over, if I got broken down it would cost a fortune to get the car home. Maybe in a few years time I might do it if I'm alive and circumstances permitting. Just out of curiosity, is anybody thinking of flying over?

I think I'll release the space. Nobody sounds too excited and since the spaces are limited it would be unfair to hold it when we're not going to use it. Whadda ya reckon folks?

prob the best thing to do cathal. sounds like a great idea to travel, but, looking at it in the cold light of day, probably impractical.

ill wait till after lenihan takes another chunk outta me before i decide for sure if i will go...if i do it will be in the daily, space for a few to share diesel etc if it comes to this.

Think your right Cathal!

We can all go in convoy in 2012......when the recession is over and we're all rich

With a bit of luck, maybe this should be brought up at the AGM. So we could actually put a plan together
and make it happen.

I was excited at first till i remembered where it is!!!

Perhaps we should look at orgainsing a convoy to Spa/EBi or just for starters BigBang/BugJam/Action as Santa Pod is an easy run!
