If I was going on this it would be all about the journey, and not about the destination. The sensible thing would be to get flights. But I'm not renown for being sensible. Anyway sounds like a great plan. Hope it works out.

I agree - one day we'll all be old and sensible (some sooner than others :) ) Besides, its great to look at your car and be reminded of the memorable drives you've had in it.

I might be interested in this but if I was going I think I would fly over. The driving sounds like great fun but if anything happened like a breakdown or anything it could cost a fortune to get the car home.

You lot sooner than me, i'm planning to get to trips into my life of this.

@ PJ. I know what you mean, fairly costly. We won't be having anyone
going back on a low loader. That is for sure, we're planning the trip as their
are going to be breakdowns. Not hoping that their won't be, because their will.

I had a classic car that I had just bought break down near Arras in France - Carole Nash had it picked up from the Autoroute and delivered back home. I was given a hire car to get me to the ferry and another hire car to get me from Rosslare to home. I reckon that with a bit of preparation a lot of problems can be avoided but if the worst comes to the worst you can't beat European breakdown cover and its ridiculously cheap. Without breakdown cover, the cost of recovering a vehicle from an Autoroute is very expensive and you have to use an official recovery vehicle so no cost cutting is allowed.

Ballytoooooole .............
First Ireland also has european cover included in there policy

You can carry some spares to try and help the breakdown other things can be "worked out"
LOL
what do you do if your dynamo/alternator goes.
get someone else to charge your battery in there car while you use your spare battery to drive. All well and good unless your the only person on 6v and don't have 3 batteries

Seems like a long drive just to got to one place, there's alot of time involved, so why not take in a show like EBI or Spa or like this year you could hit Bad Camberg on the way over and EBI on the way back!

That would be my idea of a memorable roadtrip!

Or you could add in a few more interesting places to visit?

Just my 2cents, I'm interested, I'll have to wait to see what the dates are till I add my name to the list.

Not a bad idea. Mind you, the eireball is 1000 miles and you end up back where you started, and it's still very enjoyable, so I wouldn't be too phased about just covering the distance every day and stopping off at the campsite and having the craic in the evenings.

Totally agree, if its going to be a 10 day trip then you should time it to squeeze in at least one big VW show on route.
