I may not be able to take my beetle to this. The stupid thing won't start. The starter motor is doing nothing. I have the battery on charge and Im going to have a look at the wiring in more detail now. Fingers crossed.

did you try a wire from the positive side of the battery to the starter solenid
This will rule out wiring, ignition etc.

Rock the car back and forth in gear also, the starter might just be stuck.

Or give the starter some gentle persuasion with a hammer

if you cant bump start a beetle on your own your a flower, or a weed not sure which

It started fine once I gave the battery a quick charge. The earth connection seemed a bit loose when I undid it so that might have been part of the problem. I drove it for a while today and its going fine so I'll be at the meeting in it. I'm going out to tip it on its side now to get all the rubbish out.
