Back from Volksworld show and still catching up on my lack of sleep...
The road trip began Thursday night when only 5mins from the house the front passenger caliper decided to stick (due to me power hosing underneath and scrubbing inside wheels etc!!) Note: never happened before!?! Poor Oisin was engulfed in a cloud of smoke when he opened the passenger door to check! With a quick road side pit stop, all was okay and we collected Pete. We dashed to the ferry with minutes to spare cornering so hard into the port, customs thought we were on the run! Also convinced we got air after going up the ramp!
Arrived some time after midnight and the road trip went well, until heavy traffic outside London encouraged our sticking caliper. During a short road side pit stop no.2, a fantastic two tone splitty (black on white, just recently on the cover of camper and bus) flew by us flat out beeping and waving!! We politely waved back ( couldn't quite make out what Pete was saying under his breath!
) Half an hour later with us all back on board and foot to the floor we just happened to pass the same splitty on the side of the road!
the chap was sitting facing us in the back of his bus, head bowed, and we returned the polite beep all waving! (We couldn't stop as we all agreed by this stage not to use the foot brake!)
Upon arrival about 10am Friday morning at sandown, with believe it or not, the dirtiest VW there (we couldn't find a power washer anywhere) and a fairly smelly caliper, Cathal greeted us with bucket in hand and Wayne McCarthy offering his cleaning products... After a quick wash then driving the bus into the VW showroom in the main hall, we managed to detail the bus inside and out to the highest standard, with thanks to a very sharp eye from Oisin. Meantime Pete managed to source a caliper from a local supplier who brought it along on saturday to ensure a trouble free cruise back, with plenty of help on hand on Saturday evening from Shane, Paul and all who accompanied them. The help from everyone was amazing...
All in all, a great time was had with great feedback from the eircooled crew. Also a big thanks to all mentioned, Oisin and Pete for the great craic and massive help, and Cathal for arranging all and looking after us all weekend...
Cheers
