Well we spotted this on our way back, it really puts the debate out there about all the lovely trailer queens inside and out but are they as important as this car?

Well done to all in Volksworld, it was my first time and it was a great show despite the weather. Very well organised and congrats to Coxy & Pete for getting the '65 there in one piece.

Just getting around to uploading some pics now. It was a great weekend despite the weather. I have to say well done to Pete for getting the '65 there for Friday morning through some of the worst snow in a long time. Trucks and cars littered the roads from Holyhead but Pete managed to keep the little '65 on the road!.....despite losing wipers along the way.
I got there Thursday night and even then people are arriving and the car park had a few random trailers parked up with covers over the VWs. This was my view at 6:30 on Friday morning as I left to start my days work.

Throughout the morning cars are pulling in and the detailing starts while others have left their VWs there since Thursday as they will be in work on Friday so the mix is always interesting.

This was the sandpit we built for the buggies and also Paul's Baja - the bright green one from Meath

Friday is my favourite day as there is great excitement and chaos as people arrive from all over the UK and Europe. They are cleaning their cars and getting their displays ready - some people are detailing their cars from 8am, having spent all week detailing their VWs before leaving home!!!!.......................my poor old '65 was not one of those cars
On Wednesday night Graham (VW Spares) and myself took it for a spin into Carlow and back before Pete headed off on a 350+ mile trip the next day!
Getting there covered in a layer of shite he powerhosed the car and delivered it to the show. Meanwhile my cleaning bitches were pissing it up in Dublin airport

Thankfully they arrived and were ready for some scrubbing ......although I had half of it done anyway

I have to say that they did a super job and in no time the car was gleaming

Another thing about Friday is that in between our jobs we do get to see the cars up close and talk to the owners. Myself, Duts and Beag took a quick stroll around late on Friday night. Some cars are just sitting in the halls as we can't place them until the displays are set, like the showroom which didn't get finished until 5:30am Saturday morning.

One of my favourite cars was Julian Robinson's Oval - Julian is the guy who saved the Irish Oval from the scrapheap. This Oval is a minter - I'd love to see it in the sunlight because the paint is awesome. It's no wonder it won a Top 20 award.

Barclay from Status VW brought his just finished Barndoor along.......it was still being refitted at 2am Friday morning!

By the time we got the halls cleared and I was ready to go, Pete made the executive decision not to rush for the ferry especially as the weather wasn't too good up north. We decided to go for the 9am ferry instead of the 2am so called into a friends house for a few hours but before we got there we stopped for dinner in the Ace Cafe

We left London at 2am and made it to Holyhead for 7:30am.............this van made us giggle Surely the signage must get 'modified'

Congrats to Wayne McCarthy on winning Best of Show with his '63 Beetle...........a stunning car with mind blowing attention to detail

Having won a Top 20 in 2012 it's almost unheard of for a VW to come back a year later and win a prize again, let alone taking the top award. His resto-cal look Beetle was also pitched against the best of the best at the 2012 NEC and walked away with hop honours so to say that this is now an iconic car which has marked its place in automotive and aircooled history is an understatement.

It was certainly up against some stiff competition.
The German resto Kommand small window bug with the swamp cooler for one, and the German look 2332 cc Turbo were two that spring to mind....

Well done Wayne..... A well deserved win....!
