I thought about you on the way home, I was wondering did anyone ring you or anything to let you know the run was called off.

I have a spare sticker if you want it you can have it!! I'll give it to you next time we meet.

Have to say had an enjoyable breakfast this morning, great meeting up with all that went. Thanks very much for the window sticker Cathal great Idea.

Brian you did a nice jod on them and thanks for the stripes(y)

Glad you enjoyed the brekkie and the stickers. Thanks to Brian for making them up at the last minute for me and he wouldn't take any money for them which is nice but I'm a bit worried when he winked and said "you can sort me out later"

Well, unfortunately the Brekkie Roll didn't go as I had planned. I certainly didn't plan on spending my birthday fixing Burty that's for sure :wallbash:
The breakfast itself was great craic. Kev was first there, myself and James were late getting there because we had to stop a few times with what we thought was just dirt in the carbs. Evryone arrived shortly after that; Padraig, Brendan, PJ, Colin & Glenn Williams, Larry Hannon, Brian & Liam and Keith.
I knew that the weather would keep people away and it did unfortunately maybe the next one will have nicer weather.
With only 4 cars going on the run it was never going to be great and when Burty farted his way onto the hard shoulder and ended my run the boys decided to call it a day too. Had there been a bigger turnout of cars maybe the run would have gone on........3 Beetles in a row is more of a coincidence than a run eh?
Whatever about us local boys I take my hat off to everyone who travelled from afar; Padraig who left Galway at a very early hour in his 6v Porsche through some extremely thick fog, PJ who also had to battle fog in his 6v but this time from Laois and last but not least, Keith who came up from Carrigaline - a 90min treck through fog. Unfortunately Keith arrived at the end of the brekkie so only had a cuppa before we headed off. He didn't get as much time to talk shit as the rest of us but maybe that's a good thing for him! As he said to me before he left "this was the shortest run I've ever been on"; well, I feel your pain because it wasn't the longest run I've been on but on the upside you were at least able to reliably drive away unlike me

Regarding Brosna; I'm really sorry you were left waiting in Killaloe. I sent you a PM last night to explain but I don't know if you got it. Anyway, the PM basically said that during & after breakfast I tried texting and ringing you but I'm presuming you have a new number as it kept going to voicemail and the texts weren't being delivered. I asked some of the guys if they had your number but nobody had it. I hoped you might give me a buzz to see where we were at.

Overall, the weather did not go in our favour but for those that made it, the breakfast and chat was great. With the weather getting better from here on in I can only imagine that the numbers will be up and the monthly Breakfast Rolls will get bigger and better.

Coxy did you figure whats wrong with burty

Myself and James thought it was dirt in the carb because it kept losing power and spluttering on the way in but it seemed to go ok when we left for the run but that didn't last too long. After I left the boys it took me over an hour to drive to the clubhouse which should only take 20mins max! He who knows all things mechanical; Donal Dollery, was there when I pulled in and he saw that the dual carbs were slighlty loose and allowing air in which will give the same feeling as dirt in the carbs. He tightened the carbs so I took it for a spin to check it out but only got up the road and it started again. This time I lifted the bonnet to see if the fuel pump was working and it's working on and off so Donal said it's the points inside the pump sticking and starving it of fuel so next time in the clubhouse I'll sort that out and hopefully Burty will be back in action.

only spotted you pm now,
It was not a good start to saturday for me. I was out friday night for a few social ones that ended up in a session, left roscrea late on saturday morning feeling a little tender, stopped in toomevara for petrol and it took me 30 mins to get the car going again. drove like a maniac and arrived in killaloe just after 11. i assumed ye had gone on ahead cause i was so late. i was a afraid to turn the car off again so i bet off home.
btw that was my old work number you have
maybe we will have better luck next time.

Check the earth for the pump too, do you have it rubber mounted with a wire to earth?

The earth is fine, it has power going to it. It's deffo the points because it works randomly and when it isn't working if you tap it, it fires up again. It's my own fault really because I;ve put up a lot of mileage on the car since it went back on the road and I haven't given it any loving at all. Donal did say to me to give it a once over after about a thousand miles but when you're having fun you don't want to take it off the road!!!!

A hangover, a car that refuses to start for 30mins and you still made it to Killaloe? That's dedication!

I knew it had to be an old number I had. Here's to the next one eh?

If its anything like an SU fuel pump, I know a thing or two about these. I rebuilt the one in my MG. The points sometimes get a sort of skin on them which prevents them from conducting properly. Also, the rocker pin for the points can bend or come loose. Also, if the gauze screen in the outlet gets blocked up, it will not function properly and may only work intermittently. Theyre really not complicated, and can be taken apart easily and faults found fairly quickly. Just remember how everything is wired up inside it.
