Tot-Rods might be a step too far, I'll be lucky to get something that rolls built in time, I'm flat out with other projects but I'll give it a go! A radio-flyer on a stretched chassis perhaps!

external oil cooler. Sticking it out there with the big floppy hoses to it is aping the Japanese Bosozoku style:

tip of the iceberg Ross, google "Bosozoku cars" or "Yankee style cars" and find a Japanese blog with photos from meetups etc.

Shit, I live very close the Knockbridge! My girlfriend's dad was from there. I knew there was a vintage show on but never heard about the soapbox derby. Probably winding down around now.

It's probably a lot different in spirit to what ours will be like though!

Arse I just read the rules, no 3 wheelers!!!

I had planned on building a drift trike (I was supposed to do something similar on another forum just with trikes instead of soapboxes and thought Id use same build for both!)

Here's a drift trike!

They're based on old bmx or kids bike frames and rear wheels are made out of gas/water pipes to help them slide! Or you can buy a Huffy Slider!!!!

I have old frames from when the local lads in the bicycle shop started building gravity bikes, basically a BMX flipped upside (the fork is fitted wrong) and the stuntpegs for instead of pedals and handlebars upside down for aerodynamics. Its a serious sport in other countries!

Lads I'm going to be honest, I'm all for this but getting up for a race that starts at 7am is really going to take the fun out of it for me, and if I make one race I'd be doing well. I'm not going to go to all the effort of building a kart unless we can come up with a better solution. And I'm not going to make any apologies to morning people either. I am a night owl.

Ah Jayzus Ross, quit yer winge'n, its only one day in the year! How about this if your a night owl, party all night then race a daybreak, then sleep!!

Chances are you'll have to take the van there so sleep in it, fall out of bed at 7 then race. What time do you normally get up for work/college at?

I reckon race just after the sun rises, less chance of meeting Yeehah's an Rubberneckers an that would give us more racing!
