Odd mix of parts there, look at the front wings, the right one looks like '67 (US) and the left later .... is it an irish 67/68 cross-over??

the reg on it is CZJ which according to Wikipedia is:

AZJ 1 to YZJ 999 (Jun 1966 - Jun 1967)

but if it was a '66 it would have 6V panels all round. It looks like it might be a '68-'71 car but then, what's with the earlier reg?

That a C or a G Trev? I was thinking that it might be a Northern Irish reg

It has the separate fuel guage (pre '68) and four stud wheels (post '67). Are they '67 only exterior door handles?

Back wings a mix as well by the look of them. Seats look early, steering wheel looks later as do dash knobs

both are in the '66-'67 sequence. :)

I edited after you posted. I was thinking Northern Ireland GIJ or GZJ but I've no idea of what years they correspond to. My uncle in Belfast had a car reg GIJ 8990 (Co. Down) that was mid to late '70s but GZJ was also used there as a prefix

I had a look at this car about 7/8 years ago when it was advertised in the buy and sell, remember that!? It was based the westport side of castlebar. A four stud beetle, more like a '68 or '69. Deckie, the item in the front window is a demister attached by suction cups...

If any body does go to look at it then:

Beetle Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) for the 1966 Model Year
116 000 001(August of 1965) through 116 1021 298 (July of 1966)

A late 66 car built from August 66 onwards could have a 117 **** *** chassis number. Although it would be a 67 model some people would class it as a 66.

Thats right PJ...my '67 was built in Dec'66 and has a 117*** *** chassis number but I'd never call it a '66. The differences are too many! :) But I get what you are saying, the owner might consider it a '66 car but it is in fact a '67. Although it doesn't look like a '67 to me. :)

The '66 was a one year only car too with lots of changes and even if it was built in late '65 it wouldn't be classed as a '65 model.

What I was thinking is if the owner didn't know much about the different models of bugs if the date of first registration was late 66 he might class the car as a 66 although it would actually be a 67.

Same with my oval, it was built circa Dec 53 to early Jan 54, some of the Swedish documentation even had 53 on it so VRT offered me a 53 plate but I went 54 coz sure enough someone would pull me up on it being a 54car cos of the detail changes it has! I should really get a birthcert!
