Alice 087-6810554 €4,850 OVNO*

This is the perfect combination of a Beetle to own as it has the desirable flat screen which purists love whilst incorporating the more modern McPherson strut suspension which offers a better turning circle, a more comfortable ride as well as the feel of a modern car. It truly is the best year and combination for the Beetle which is why the 1302 models are now so desirable. The higher spec 1302LS models, of which this is one, are the most coveted of these models, especially as they were a limited production run so they are now extremely rare. What makes this particular Beetle even more desirable (and RARE) is the fact that it is a genuine factory produced Karmann Cabriolet.
This particular Karmann Cabriolet 1302LS was originally ordered and supplied to Italy. It was built on 29[SUP]th[/SUP] March 1972. It then left the factory at Osnabrueck, Germany on 5[SUP]th[/SUP] April 1972. It was ordered in L51B Gentian Blue with a 1300cc engine. Although the ‘LS’ signifies a 1600cc engine, the higher tax rate in Italy meant that the Beetle was a special order with a 1300cc engine. Other items to note was the fact that the original owner chose to have a ‘Volkswagen’ engine lid badge over the 1302LS badge, no doubt to keep the taxman off their back! We have since sourced a replacement 1302LS badge as we felt it deserved to boast its rarity. This badge is also very hard to source and is rare in its own right. The Italian spec indicators are no longer with the car but are available via numerous enthusiast sites from time to time. In their place are a set of European spec indicators.
Of course, the car was originally left hand drive however when it was bought by a couple in the UK, it was professionally restored and converted to RHD. The colour was also changed at this point to a darker metallic blue and the car was fitted with an original set of Porsche Fuch alloys.
Sadly the couple broke up shortly after the completion of the restoration and the wife brought the Beetle with her to Holland.
In 2008, the Karmann Cabriolet Beetle was offered for sale on a specialist website which is where I saw my dream car and knew I had to have it. I had the Beetle delivered to me in Tipperary and I began to use it immediately. It has been an extremely reliable Beetle and I have never had any issues with it. The modern McPherson strut suspension setup made it the perfect candidate for use as my every day car.
It always attracts admiring glances and comments as well as being photographed on every outing by both young and old. I have always maintained my Beetle with a ‘no expense spared’ ethos and it shows as it has won awards at almost every show I go to with it. I changed the look a number of years ago by changing the Porsche rims for the original wheels wearing OG hubcaps & wheel trims as well as a set of whitewall tyres to give that retro look.
This is one of those rarities within the classic car scene today; a true plug & play car because you can literally buy it today, drop the hood and enjoy the drive home in the ultimate cabriolet.

I am selling the Beetle only because I sustained an injury from a cycling accident a number of months ago and have not been able to drive it since so I feel I cannot maintain it as I once did. I will be very sad to see my dream car leaving but I know that whoever buys it will get miles of smiles behind the wheel.

There are a few minor imperfections or characterful imperfections as I choose to call them! Firstly, the lacquer has lifted in places which I have not had the time to address recently but is a very simple fix. There are a few rust spots such as on the doors and very small piece above the engine lid but these are all very simple repairs, even for the home DIY’er. There is absolutely no structural rust and the subframe and cabriolet supports are like new. I have had 3 very small repairs professionally carried out on the roof so you can be reassured that this is a fantastic Beetle and an even better investment as classic car prices have seen continuous and steady growth over the last number of years. Ideally I would respray the car as I feel it deserves a makeover but as it stands it’s extremely useable. I have tried to be as honest as possible in my description but one person’s idea of perfect may not be the same as another person’s so I would ask that you come and view my Karmann Cabriolet to see for yourself. It may not win a concours competition but it was my daily driver so if I was being uber critical I would say it was a fantastic base for a very simple resto so in other words, for very little outlay you can have a super rare Karmann Cabriolet 1302LS that is RHD. What more could you possibly want?

*We are looking at buying a house too so if someone buys and pays for the car before the end of October I will give a further 5% off the already bargain price!!!!!

Thanks Padraig. Hopefully someone else could get enjoyment out of it since I'm not able to drive it.

Late Beetles seem to be going up in price, never mind a Cabriolet - great price Alice.

Doubt it'll be for sale for long (y)

Best of luck with the sale, the house-hunt & your recovery. As said above, I'm sure this won't hang about long..

I'll join everyone else in saying that's a stonking deal. A 1302LS is a rare breed so a RHD Karmann Cabriolet is one to have especially when it comes with so much of its history known right back to the day the order was placed in the factory!

I drove this a few weeks ago in the sun with the roof down and I just loved it. Sweet sounding engine was a joy to listen to.

Best of luck with the sale Alice.

Thanks a mil Justin and Coxy. I hate that I've to let it go, but equally I hate that it's not getting the use it should so would get a kick out of someone getting a thrill out of it like I used to. On the plus side it's getting quite a lot of interest!
