I'm getting prices for my engine parts at the moment. So far Ive gotten prices from Ben Byrne, Cool Air, VW Speed Shop, Status VW and Eurocarb. Can anyone recommend any other suppliers that I should try?

I spoke to Jon just there too. He's to come back to me with prices this evening. So far I'm just within my budget, and that's allowing some extra money for unforeseen items.

I have to have some limit. Otherwise it would get out of control quickly. A while back I was thinking of going for a stock 1600 with nice carbs and a decent exhaust and leaving it at that. Things have grown quickly, and I have an idea or 2 up my sleeve that I'm not going to get into at this point. Suffice it to say, this will be one serious engine.

That price didn't include postage by the way, Justin.

Yeah but then you say you have a porker engine in your bug and people expect it to be fast! Saying you have a Volkswagen flat 4 engine in the car doesn't raise any suspicion.

Ross, is there any issues with insurance if you're going to buy a engine that big? If you're not planning to declare it, make sure you don't plan to crash! I know its not usually an issue with vintage cars but seeing as it's your daily driver is it different?

(ps. PM me if you want me to delete/edit this. It's a public forum after all.)

I'm not using it as my daily at the moment. And I am going to declare it, even if it means paying extra. I dont want to take any chances. I will be increasing the insured value of the car too.
