'twas Tony Pond alright. But in a Rover 827 Vitesse! (He rallied an SD1 Vitesse there alright, but that was a different beast altogether) Tony Ponds lap was amazing. Dunno how he did it in one of these front wheel drive barges, and without breaking a sweat at the end! The Rover wasn't completely stock, but Mark Higgins had what was pretty much a Group N Subaru - not really a fair comparison IMHO.
Had forgotten how good the Kit Car formula was. Jean Ragnotti in a Clio Maxi - check out slide at 18s...
On the day, they were faster on tarmac than the GrpA & WRC cars.
