Premiums are very cheap and if a ship calls a "general average "Id rather have it than not ...I wouldn't mind loosing my stuff so much but would rather not have to fork out for someone elses shiny runners for example.

Thanks Britt - but no thanks.

I spoke to a shipping agent this evening to clarify, shipping from L.A to England including customs and charges is £1,600 at todays rates (all in). In euro that equals €1,868, plus another €500 to transport to Ireland ending up with a total of €2,368.

Ok that dosen't include transport from Utah & putting a plate for it in Ireland, but yes you can import for €2,500 - best of luck selling your three cars Britt (y)

Did he quote you for loading, de-stuffing, additional port charges if shipping from Long Beach, title and doc fees, Customs fees, VAT, Duty, the list goes on and on. What happens if he quotes you 1 price and then when the car lands it's more? What recourse then? I can't tell you how many times a week I get questions on shipping. I bet Crazylegs and The Kombi guys also get those emails. If it were so easy everybody would be doing it. Not trying to burst a bubble but trying to save some expenses here.

I agree and understand the thinking. I just remember my customer saying it was a joke. Maybe I should revisit it. I saw a trade magazine ( 10 years ago so old info) with a container bobbing in the ocean and the Title was 3,600 Containers overboard every month!

It does not include insurance Britt but as Mr Hickey says; marine insurance is cheap. The price I gave included Custom and VAT of the value of that Oval, you can determine that price now to the 5% rule on classic vehicles in the UK (again customs could argue the value but you’re going to be arguing the value against 5% not 30%. Loading, de-stuffing, port charges at both sides included in his price. This is the information the shipper I spoke to yesterday gave me, Coxy has imported a few bugs with Kingstown and said they honoured their price. I'm not even intrested in the bug just to confirm my first comment.

Obviously having someone like you US side with vast experience in Volkswagens, Customs, local knowledge & transport is invaluable and I wouldn't recommend buying alone so no bubbles bursted here, but yes you can import for 2,500 Euro.
