I'm no expert, but I think you'd have to assume the bulkhead is rotten as well? Or at least it's been weakened by the heat? €1,000 seems a lot for a car that needs a replacement engine.

Yep, that's Tom's SA beetle. Mad car - wide 5 running gear, curved screen etc.
