Any tips for how to get the best start off the line for us drag n00bs?
I will be going through this at the drivers briefing, but the gist of it is, youve got to be driving like some sort of c unit to bust something gearbox wise.
I get my car into pre stage 2 top lights, then just ease it up to full stage (all four staging lights lit) clutch and handbrake, then i get the revs up a touch, no more than 3krpm, i would advise no more than 2k for you guys, then get the bite point on the clutch ever so slightly and pre load the trans on the handbrake, when the lights drop, its a combo of full beans and handbrake release, its not too difficult to master but your handbrake must be good, you dont want snapped cables etc.
The last thing any of you guys want to be doing is sitting at the lights at 4k+ rpm and then just dropping the clutch, recipe for something to break, maybe not with smaller hp engines, but if its your first time, walk it off the line and get used to it, i still walk mine out of the box and 2 seasons on a stock gearbox and 2 events with 185bhp, the method might not net quick times, but it sure has saved me a fortune in time fixing and a built gearbox i cannot afford ;-)
