Hi,

I'm selling my '74 twin port 1300 which I had intended to turn into a German look car but now realise that I won't realistically get near in the foreseeable.

Good points:

1300 twin port with virtually no end play. Starts, runs and pulls fine. I've changed the oil, plugs, ignition leads, done the valve clearances etc. It leaks/burns practically no oil.

Driver's side sill/heater channel replaced to a decent standard. Looks good to me.

Floor is solid everywhere. I can't find fault with it.

Wings, doors, bonnet and boot lid are fine.

All electrics work (apart from heated rear window - element looks fine so I reckon that wiring needs a look.

Bad points:

Passenger door pillar was welded at base before and should be redone.

Bodywork: I'd replace the rear quarter panels (they've never been replaced before but there's some filler and I'm fussy). Needs a front passenger quarter panel, I reckon and maybe the drivers side too.

Needs some work to the gutters and repairs to the C panel around the vents (again filler).

Needs new window rubbers & door/bonnet seals all round

Reverse gear detent missing - it'll crunch if you inadvertantly select reverse instead of second. All gears are fine though - no whining or jumping.

Any questions, just ask. I'm not interested in messing anyone around so all questions will be answered honestly.

Its got a year's MOT from a few weeks ago.

I'm asking 1650 euro but make me a realistic offer and we'll go from there.

I showed this to Trev today as I was planning on keeping the car and getting the body fixed up. He pointed out some stuff that I wasn't aware of (there's a bulkhead repair needed and the spare wheel well repair needs to be redone. There's also work needed around the rear bumper mounts). He also reckons that it'll probably need a bonnet replacement. There's nothing to stop the car being used as a daily driver for a while - its running well.

This all means that its not worth as much as I had thought/hoped so the price has come down.

900 euro or nearest offer.

Can you elaborate on the bulkhead repair, is it crash damage, or just tin worm.

Its just tinworm in the bulkhead - there's a patch on the inside of the car but you can see the hole with the frilly edges in the old metal from outside. Trev also reckoned that the car had a knock at the front at some point as the inner wings are kinked slightly in the area of the spare wheel well.

Well if someone were to turn up in my driveway with a wad of notes and a decent offer then a deal can be done. That said, I wouldn't be open to offers that were less than the breakable value of the car. It's complete and driving well and has its good points. I'd agree with you though that if someone were to do any bodywork on it, they might as well do it properly.

I have to pick up a load of beetle bits next week, and a pre 65 beetle as well. If you still
have it when I,m done maybe the end of the week, or early the following week, I,ll arrange
to come down and have a look at it, if that suits you.

Just thinking - if I keep the engine and gearbox, I'd sell it for 600 euro. For that you get decent doors, boot lid, seats, glass including heated rear window, almost new fuel tank, decent chassis (incl V5 and up to date MOT), respectable bumpers & bonnet and all the other bits and bobs that a complete car offers. Its a bargain....

So - 900 euro driving, 600 euro minus the engine & gearbox.

First with the cash gets it :)

Seriously though Rez, the gutters are starting to swell - by all means come and have a look but there'll be a bit of cutting involved if you want to make one good car out of two. If you do come and see it, I'll show you all good & bad points. Trev has looked over it too and may be a good second opinion for you.

Thanks. I'll see if I can get to Kildare in the next few days. I'll pm you if I can. Any chance of a few more pics?

I thought Tim bought this?

Not at the moment, and I,ve had pm,s with Horizontal about getting down to look at it, but things are stacking up
at my end, and I have not been able to get there. Bringing home bits of 2 other 70,s beetles, and a 65 one, have left
me late on this one. Naturally if someone gets there before me, his money does the talking.

I think in all fairness, take me out of the queue, as I dont want to hold up horizontal on a sale. Good luck if he sells it
and whoever buys it.
