looks good. great starter for someone looking to get into aircooled

I see it more as a second car to be honest - if I was starting, I'd like my first aircooled to be straightforward - the second can always be a part-time project. Like I said, the gutters are swelling and the bulkhead needs a repair. The bodywork has bubbles here and there. The bottom line is that for 600 odd euro without gearbox/transmission, its worth more than that for parts alone. If someone wanted to practice their welding and see where the project ended up they might even end up with a decent enough car, especially given that its had a fair bit of work already done. If it wasn't for the gutters I'd keep it, get the welding finished and have a go at roller painting it. With a bit of work the finish wouldn't be much worse than the original factory paint job (plenty of orange peel in some of them).

I thought there was a queue for it here.
After talking with Horizontal I realised that to use his car as a donor for mine or the other way round is currently a good bit above my expertise. He was very honest with his description of it. It would be nice if someone in the club fancied taking this on and kept it among us.

Cheers Tim - a few people thought that it might be an option for Kev but he wants to focus on his own which makes sense really.

I think it would be a good project for someone to cut their teeth on resto
skills, good value too. I cant take it as I,m commited on the 66 as its too
good to pass up.

No affence to horizontal, but it's not a car forvsomeone to cut their VW teeth into. One of those would be one that needed little or no welding. Maybe just mechanical work. Best of luck with the sAle. It will sell

I think its an ideal car for a first resto, as its got a lot of things going for it.
Pricewise its good for a beginner. It needs most of the problem areas covered.
Its a long project, so it might suit someone on a very low budget for panels ect, over a longer tme.

Buying a car that needs little or no welding, is going to cost a lot more than this car, and
wont learn a lot if there is little or no welding needed. A good car will be easily fekked up
by a diy welder. Where this project , as a starting base , wont be devalued by messy welding.

I think if a noobie bought this car , and invested in a local tech course in mig welding, it could
end up being a good intro into the resto skills required.

Of course if a prospective buyer wants the perfect bug.............run from this car:D:D:D

But it is the most honestly described ad I,ve seen, and bang for buck the buyer wont get any nasty surprises, that he might from other ads.

I,d give it the thumbs up for the noobie, whos prepared to do a mig welding course, and is
interested in restoring bugs.

Thats just my 2 cents tho............

All I know is that I've gone to see cars advertised for a lot more money that weren't even a good prospect as parts donors. I could break this car and make more than I'm asking for it (not that I'd be the type to kill a car with prospects)

I've had some interesting calls though - Donedeal buyers are a fascinating lot :) Its nearly worth it for the entertainment value alone.

I was offered a swap with a train set this morning.... (apparently worth over a grand, in fairness)

I suppose there is a transport theme :)

So far I've been offered a BMW 3 series, two Golfs (not together) and a train set.

Does no-one deal in cash any more? :ROFLMAO:

At least no-one's offered me livestock...

There's enough wildlife around where I live without me adding to it :ROFLMAO:

In fairness, I suppose you can't blame people for trying and some of that stuff is worth a bit - those little model cars go for serious money.

Good news is that I have a sensible offer on the table - things are looking up :)
