lads i'm not being smart but anyone who is such a fucking tool to do that to a good beetle is someone i would be careful doing business with - you could drive 200 miles with a trailer and he would be gone to the pub

i don't care if i am insulting the bloke but you don't put a 3k engine in a ?k car behind a wall (as brian said) and then expect people to take you anyway seriously

Good man Ruairi. Tell it like it is. Personally, I think the car is already a shitbox. Theres already not a huge demand for 1303s and it is LHD. The only thing it has going for it is that its a cabrio and has a 2l engine in it, but the engine is probably seized up or at the very least will need a major rebuild. What use is it to anybody letting it rot? Ive met those types before "Ah sure you know, you can come along but I dont know like, I dont need to sell it. Its all the same to me to let it rot there than to have to go to the hassle of selling it."

Anyway, its none of my business. I dont want it anyway. I'm just giving my opinion.

I think the idea of auctioning by pm,s is an underhand way of selling it. If you are going to sell something, put it out there in the open , for everyone to see. I,m not going to discuss the content of any pm,s I,ve had over it, out of respect for the pm process. But I was not entirely happy over the way it was done.

But more power to getting 750+ for it. Whats it at now, anyone know.

my view was, it would be worth it for the following

irs rear end.
carbs.
engine, would be a complete strip.
the rest of it is scrap.
that is all thats worth saving, i offered 200 quid straight away, to which i was told that the guy would buy it off the vendor himself if thats all it was worth, i told him 300 quid was my tops.
not one reply.

dont get me wrong, i dont do messing about but this for sale thread stinks.thats why i asked what the deal was with this sale.:wallbash:
stick it on ebay if you want a secret bidding war or tell people how much you actually want for this vehicle, otherwise wind your neck in and go and piss about on gumtree save wasting everyones time.:getreal:
and dont get all stary eyed of the idea of a bernie bergman motor, think volkspares on a bigger scale ;-)

Yep, I agree, it's a shitbox.

Even if it was a Gene Berg motor that has sat for 15-20 years I'd be very cautious of it.

The ad went up I Vagdrivers and I replied there first! heres what I said!

Ive scrapped better, more than once too, its a 70's car so nothing rare on it so anything thats good is only worth pennies as new stuff can be bought cheap, there dosent seem to be much left that not rotten, plus this aint no RAT, rats are old with patina, this is new as far as bugs go and just pure rotten, 70's cars rot more than older ones too which didnt help. Car is only worth what the engine is worth, which is at the end of the day either a stock bottom end machined to suit 1914 barrels and heads to suit, or a 2l from a van! Then theres the 40's which are worth something but need an overhaul so really arent worth a whole lot! (I picked up a set for £80 that just require suitable jets!) A Couple of hundred for the whole lot Im afraid, but only if your very lucky. Ive paid 2-300 for bugs to get parts I wanted but this being an 1303 means its not so good for breaking! To be honest it would not be worth the effort as again you collect to car, tow it home, spend hours breaking it, dispose of the scrap and then overhaul the motor, you'd have done alot with your time and cash, turning a stock motor into a 2L!

I'd be interested but only for small money! - Most people would be just glad to see this gone from their yard!

So to be honest Ben I wouldnt even give 300 for it, 700 would buy you a lot to build a good bored and stroked motor, and thats before you tow/scrap/strip/dispose and rebuild that 03! Funny the guy I bought my carbs off of had gathered all the relavent parts to build a 1914, machined casings etc, etc, all it required was building and he was tasking me £500 for the lot!

700 - theres obviously no recession there!

i hear ya tsar, its worth 300 to me, irs parts, box. carbs can be rebuilt easy enough and if the bottom end of the motor was useable it would be a bonus.

but im not crying its going for 700, its just the way this guy has gone about business, cricket, it is not.:2cents:

Its worth that alright, but its just the effort tove to go through to get your moneys worth! I recently scrapped ans 03 for the IRS box and 1600 motor! similar condition and nothing else after the motor and the box was any use!
