Was just trying to think how you could use a 12v generator. I dunno how you could change the output of a 12v to 6v, but it can't be that hard??? However if you left it 12v could you have two 6v batteries and connect them in series to the generator and then in parallel to he rest of the car? Is that possible though - don't think it is.

Not really!
The resistors would be sized according to the component load not the output from the generator. But as he is looking to run the whole car a step down transformer would be a better bet.
Would you consider a 12v conversion and just run the likes of the semaphores off a voltage divider ?
The six volt starter will run perfectly fine on 12v and all the wiring would be ok as you would be halfing the current draw in the whole circuit i am not to sure about the coil but i can look into it. Obviously there would be small things needing changed like bulbs.
