14" whitewall flaps/rings/inserts/whatever. I'm looking for a set of 4 (or the redband trims either) just something to lend a bit of bling to the wheels.

What you got?

Everyone I know who has/had them has said they're shite. They easily fall off or get lumps taken out of them and they eat into the sidewall of your tyre, leaving a pretty deep groove right the way around the tyre wall. Just my .02

I know I know I know!!

I've heard the stories and I've seen the evidence on a couple of Irish buses but I still want a set. They're not for the bus BTW, they would be for a set of "show" wheels for the Derby. I have plenty of "daily" wheels that I would run it on during the year.

Still looking for a set if anyone has any they've removed from their van because they were eating the sidewalls ;)

I think how it works is that the sidewalls flex as the tyre rotates and changes shape over bumps, as you'd expect them to. The flaps rub against the sidewall as it deflects and just good old fashioned friction causes one to wear against the other. Unfortunately it's the sidewalls that wear more than the flaps themselves so you risk a blowout if you use them. I think you can lubricate between the whitewall flap and the tyre but it will inevitably splatter and look manky...

anyway, all that aside I still want a set :ROFLMAO:
