Hi,I want to sell my 1977 VW Beetle and wondered if anyone can advise a realistic valuation.Original reg. Running well. 73K miles. Taxed and Insured. Sky Blue. Not immaculate but body work good - was restored 10 years ago, always been garaged but some traces of rust evident at bottom of doors.Advise appreciated - where to sell, valuation, recommendations, gotchas etc.On email also at raypdana@gmail.com

hi Ray, unfortunately it's one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions. You'd need someone who's got their finger on the pulse of beetle valuations to have a good look over the car in person.

alternatively, keep an eye on Donedeal for similar year/condition beetles coming up for sale and use them as a yard stick to value yours. Sadly, '70s beetle values are quite low at the moment, certainly lower than 10 years ago when you had it restored.

Cheers Trev. Prices seem quite strong in UK but certainly lower here. Little on offer recently to compare against. Will throw up a few photos over weekend.

I bought a bus last year that was "professionally "restored with chicken wire and newspaper and had to be cut up and done again so there seems to be different levels of "professionall" restorers here in Ireland.

There are plenty of overpriced 70s bugs for sale on done deal .I have been to see quite a few over the last few months as a local family were looking for a
Bug they had a good budget to buy a good car but there are far to many unrealistic sellers out there .cars that would have struggled to make €2000
A year ago are being put up for €6000 plus I am not saying a late 70s bug isn't worth good money but it needs to be a good car not something that needs any welding or painting
And as Riggsi said not all professional restorations are good and depending on who the professional was will speak volumes about how good or bad a car may be .
