Day 2, Thursday - Opel Musuem.

Day 2, Thursday - Opel Musuem.

Later on that day we went to an Opel musuem in Dusseldorf, it would have been lovely to get to the Wolfsburg factory but it is a good 6 hour drive away. Some really lovely cars there and the collection of parts is really cool. If only we knew of more Vdub Musuems.

One of 3 cars known to exsist to this day and the only one complete. Note it has 6 doors and would have been used for diplomatics.

Day 3, Friday.

Day 3, Friday.

Well we didn't do a major amount on Friday just getting ready for the trip, we set off around 7PM. Roads were quiet enough but fog remained for the nights travelling.

Petrol was cheap.

And this where we stopped off, in a place called Arras. If your doing this trip I strongly recommend stopping off here for the night if your not planning on going on doing another four hours. From Arras to the next motorway motels you have to cover about 300KM which is not but it takes ages, around 4 hours. You would probaly find somewhere in the smaller towns but a lot of France shuts down at night/weekends.

Day 4, Saturday - The Race.

Day 4, Saturday - The Race.

We didn't set off until 11:30 that day as we thought we had plenty of time as it showed 4 hours distance on the sat nav. I suppose a road trip isn't a road trip without problems two main problems that developed were an oil leak on the tinwar possible a crankcase seal. One of the barrels was also leaking some oil. I'm not sure how much oil Andre put in over the trip but it wasn't much. And as you know the fanbelt gave issue.

Collect your ticket, then pay your toll.

Great motorway stops every 50KM or so, we stopped off for breakfast here.

Didn't see one bay or split over 850KM, it was T4 heaven.

Bit of French would be handy for motorway notifications.

These pics really bring back memories for me of when I was living in Paris and travelling around Germany. When I drove in France for sightseeing I used to set my GPS to avoid toll roads. Makes for a much more interesting and much cheaper drive and often doesn't add much time to the journey at all. They don't pay road tax in france, just a registration fee when you buy the car, and they make up a lot of their revenue from toll roads which can get very pricey indeed! The light-up sign said "Ready for winter? We are."
