I met this guy one day out side homebase near work and I had been looking at buy a syncro for a while but could'nt find one I could afford that was worth anything. But one had come up on DD and looked good and not to above my price. He was in a syncro panal/camper so I took the oppertunity to ask him what he taught and what should I be looking at. So we parted ways I went into work for my night shift and rang the guy the next day only to be told it was sold.
A couple of weeks later I say he had bought it on and had pictures up on T2i. It turn out to be probably the best syncro in the country!

Lesson learnt keep your mouth shut!!

It's one of the rarest ones about. We ran a feature on it in Camper & Bus and he had it for sale at the time. I saw it recently on the Samba for €50k+

Excuse my ignorence but is there a buyer out there to spend that money on a T25?

Don't get me wrong I like T25's but I don't think I could justify that on a split.

The Syncro 16" models are a very rare beast so when you think of rare you have to look away from the fact it's a T25, a model you would not expect to be, what we in the classic VW scene see as rare.
Paul's Bus is all original, is low mileage and mint. It has a great history to it which always heps values but the rarity of the Bus comes from the facat that only 2,138 Syncro 16" models were produced. These were probably the most expensive T25s ever made as the finished bodyshells did a feckin tour of duty to be fitout - from Hanover to Austria for the 4x4 system, back to Hanover for final finishing before going to Westfalia to be fitted out as a camper if the dealers requested it - not every dealer ordered one. Most were built for the military, border patrol and ambulance services so in total only 10 went to Westfalia to be fitted out as a camper and it is believed that there is only about 6 left - none are in this condition so amongst the Syncronauts this is the dogs goolies. Different Volks for different folks :D

Way to make me feel like I missed out!!! I was going to get it for €5500 when it was on DD but was heading in on a night shift with plans to have a look the following day. I get alittle annoyed about it as I should'nt of opened my mouth but did'nt no what I was really looking at.

I don't know if it sold and if it did whether he got his asking price so I wouldn't worry about it. We can all ask high prices for stuff, never a guarantee you'll get it no matter what it is.

This sounds a bit like Coxy's story of finding his yellow cal look beetle, Paul is probably the biggest syncro fan in Ireland! so it was fate in Pauls case and you just helped out. A saying from the part of the country paul comes from is "say nothing till you know more":D
( I went to college with Paul a long time before he was into volkwagens)

That's kinda my philosophy when it comes to buying things.
'Say nothing till its at home in the shed'
Sounds like you didn't know him at the time an you were unlucky an asked the wrong person. Then again, if you had of known what exactly it was you would have gone an bought it straight away too.
Unfortunately 'Snooze - you loose' is also an appropriate saying!
Google is great for research, no need to let anyone know you plans.
