Harley davidson....
Harley davidson....
Having been a previous owner of Honda's 1800cc Goldwing, with it's 6 cylinder fuel injected engine, I wasn't sure how Harleys Flagship cruiser, The Electra Glide Ultra Limited would compare.
I wasn't sure if Harley Davidson was for me,
but If your'e going to do the Harley thing, then the good ol' USA is the place to do it. 120Euro will get you your dream machine for 24 hours, and with Jacksonville only 180 miles away, why not.
The liquid cooled(on a harley.......??????) 1670cc V twin certainly delivers plenty of usable power and torque, and it pulled away in any gear, at any speed. No need to drop down gears on this baby, just wind back the throttle and away ya go.
The 6 speed box needs a good strong kick to get it into gear, but wasn't all that bad. My only real gripe was impossible to find neutral.
Overall i suppose it was never going to topple the GoldWing from it's perch as the ultimate cruiser, but I suppose it never intended to. It is what it is - a Harley, and a very well refined one at that with an immaculate finish all round.
Sat nav, cruise control and a 4 speaker stereo all live in the touch screen dash, and made the trip very comfortable- apart from the blistering heat. It was hitting 35 degrees at about 2 pm, and even sitting at 70 mph, there was no escaping it.
366 miles later I was back at Orlando Harley, tired and burnt, but glad that i had lived the dream. Not sure if i'd spend 28000 euro on a bike that would sit in the shed for 11 months of the year.... but what the heck....
That's another one off the bucket list...!
Take your pick.....
