- wasn't expecting so many responses.
Anyway, the reason why I'm looking for one with only one vacuum port is that the hole in the butterfly is a different size for the SVDA Solex 34. I've fitted an SVDA carb and I'm having trouble adjusting it at idle - basically I can't get a steady idle (it rises and falls gently) and the volume control screw isn't doing a whole lot. When I rev the engine, the revs drop slowly instead of immediately. Dave (Caddy) cleaned the carb ultrasonically when he was setting up my engine and it runs well enough off idle (I haven't pushed the engine as its a fresh rebuild). I've checked for vacuum leaks (lots of WD40), all gaskets are new and everything is torqued correctly. There doesn't appear to be any play in the throttle spindle and again, spraying WD40 at it makes no difference to running. I'm using the retard port (definitely the correct one) for the dizzy and the other two are plugged properly.
This thread pretty much sums up my symptoms:

Can't remember my carb flange number off hand but when I checked it last night it was a DVDA carb. I could do the pop rivet thing but thought it might be neater just the change the butterfly if I could get an SVDA 34 pict 3 carb.
@Britt - I know you've recommended the 30 + adapter conversion before and it does seem like the best stock carb overall but my carb seems to be in good nick and it just seems easier to switch the butterfly (if I can get one) at this stage. Do you reckon that the 34 carb in general is just a POS and will never run well?
@411guy - thanks for the offer but it must be an SVDA 34 pict 3 carb. Whats the flange number on it? There might be two but one has a VW prefix - that's the one I'm interested in
