I was thinking of heading up on Saturday. Is there anywhere like a hotel that I could stay in fairly near it as I'm not prepaired to camp out?

.
Get into Halford's, they have two-man pop up tents (these are great) for around €50, less with an AXA card. You can pick up a decent sleeping bag there too for under €20.

Sorted.

There is a rattle in my Beetle under the gearstick, the bush is gone in it. Would it be risky to drive that to Lurgan from Portlaoise and back? Or would it be ok? Could it break down or anything?

Looking Good.

I'll have to camp on the top of one of the hills.

Greatballsoffire.
Unless your gear knob or linkage is falling off you should be good. Theres very little that will stop an old VW
Once the have fuel and a little electricity they generally keep going

Coooool, looks the biz, great pics, can't wait to get there now. Just finished the last few bits on the car, just changed a dodgey fuel line, could do without those sort of problems on the way, thinking petrol - exhaust, those kind of things!!!
As for the gearstick bush, mine was gone for a while and never caused any problems, just drove me mad rattling when accelerating, only changed it during the week.

By the way Greatballsoffire, I have a 4 man tent with 2 compartments so your welcome to use one of them if you like, save you the hassle of booking a hotel.

Thanks! You don't happen to have a sleeping bag by any chance? Or is there a Halfords store anywhere on the way up where I can get these things?

I have a spare one , a friend of mine was supposed to travel with me but he can't go, so the car is packed with camping gear for 2 people, so no problem, the tent is separated in 2 so it's like having your own tent anyway

Podsyb, could you pm me your number so I can contact you at the campsite or whatever? Or maybe we could meet up somewhere along the way and go in convoy or something as I am not 100% sure how to get to it.

Anyone not sure on directions give us a ring on 0754288920

Google maps or satnav, Oxford Island, Discovery centre, BT66 6NJ
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?utm_c...m_source=en_GB-ha-emea-gb-bk-gm&utm_term=road

If coming from Dublin direction proably best head to Lisburn(Rd to Belfast) When you get to Sprucefield take the M1 WEST to Fermanagh/Portadown.
Anyone coming from Fermanagh/Monaghan direction just head straight down M1

Look out for Junction10 (you'll se a big brown sign for Oxford Island) come off here and take the third left on roundabout Kinnego Embankment/Annaloiste Rd ( I'm gonna get a sign of somesort on the roundabout as the centers sign has gone!) Follow that road a short distance and you should see a sign to the right for Oxford Island. Go on down that lane and then turn to the right (2nd Rd) for Kinnego Marina.

See ya'll later :cooool:
