MG Midget 77

This is my uncles MG.
It was sitting in my dads garage taking up space so I borrowed it for a few days. (and left a beetle to keep the space warm)

Man the smile it pus on my face with the roof down and te exhaust tone

He has her up for sale
He bought it near London nearly 2 years ago and to be honest has driven it feck all

Its a 77 with a 1500 engine running great with new roof

He's looking for around the 2500 mark

That takes me back. We got a Midget about 13 years ago (pre kids) ours was a '73 in Blaze (a more orange red than this car). It had the the 1275 A-series engine with twin SU's. Only any good for two people so it went eventually to Hayley's dad who still has it. Of course we then saw the light and got a van (great for carting your family / dog / associated stuff about).
Has to be said though changing the dynamo in a Midget is a lot easier than a Type 2 VW (I speak from experience).

Has this car been garaged all the time, (ie is there any rust on it) does it need any work to be done, or is it ready to go can you tell me. :cooool:

Its being garaged at least since its arrival in Ireland
Its driving great has new brake pads on the front tyres are nearly new could do with a pair of shocks up front. but very drivable as it is
There no rust on the body but has had repairs in the past.

Deckie the shocks on the front of a Midget are lever arm type and form the upper link for the suspension. I think there is a plug on the top of the damper box to allow topping up which may help with the damping. There is an oil to use in these dampers or Jack Oil (as sold by Comma etc) should be OK.

I dunno
All i've done is checked the engine oil put petrol in and enjoyed the drive

You're not wrong. 20w50 engine oil will do the trick for the dampers though.

Thats a real beauty of a car and at the right price too.

Its in my house in Navan for the next few days but i'll be returning it to Dublin during the week. Its available to view anytime i'm here.

When I drop it back to Dublin you'll have to talk to my uncle for a viewing

Sorry for the silence Clio
I had an incident which stalled me for a week
I was in slane nearly 2 weeks ago

While comming home this noise started clunk-clunk
after a bit of diagnosis I found the problem

pinion

Crown wheel

I'm not sure how it happened but the rear axel\diff was a bit low on oil and maybe some of the driving around back roads with a big smile on my face :fool: the evening before fractured it and a it broke the next day..

Anyway
I got a complete diff and pinion and crown ring (incase chunks of metal had damaged the diff gears or bearings) which was fully tested and checked to be 100% from Larence @ Just MG's up North

So the cars back in action

I drove it back to Dublin yesterday all was perfect ( collected my bug which at least my metric tools work properaly if there's a problem)
