I've checked around on the internet, and the prices don't seemed to have dropped much, even with the recession on. If I had the choice, something in the 3 to 4 ton region and single phase, I'd be a happy camper. I know 2 other guys who would be keen to their hands on something like that. John.

I'm pretty sure he would. Must try and locate him and see what he says. Thanks George. John.

Joe Fallon is yer man in Mullingar 0862500110. Bought one off him last week. Made in china but it looks a good job. The instructions are vague enough but its not rocket science. One hint i will give is when you are connecting the steel cables is to only put the nuts on a couple of threads, otherwise when you come to the last one you will not be able to stretch the cable enough to get the nut on.

Thanks for the infomation, and the hint as well. Tell me, did you get a 2 post or a 4 post unit? And what weight will it lift? John.

Same guy in Roscommon, www.red.ie as far as I know. Also advertising on donedeal,
and I dont think his prices have changed in the last 12-18 months.

tim

I seen it on donedeal, and as far as I know, I think his units are manufactuured in china to their specifications. I stand corrected though. John.

Looks like the same supplier. I know some that are using the chinese units,
and some that are using Italian ones. I think fallons are chinese, I dont know if he supplies
the italian or american lifts.

Im looking for the same, so count me in as a group buy!!

Ive 2 mates whos families business are selling and fitting.servicing garage equipmet, one never touched chinese only italinan, the other did but gave up, he said that the CE marks on them arent legit and that theres issues with them etc etc so they gave up selling them! I said, Im only using it for hobby use so it wont be up and down 10 times aday so surely the chinese ones would be okay????

If we could get a group buy to gether who would be interested???? Chinese ones are around 1500 for a single phase 3-4 ton lift!!!

I we used a UK supplier then we could get the vat off!!!

One of my suppliers in work does lifts, I must ring him tomorrow, Ive been meaning to call him!

Theyre easy enough to install yourself!!!!

2post lift possible group buy:

1: Dirty1 (Tsar)
2: Mac

Id be very wary of the chinese ones. Its one thing if the motor stops working or it jams. Its another thing entirely if it collapses entirely when working under it. The quality control in China can be abysmal.

You cant generalise these days, there are some good products coming out of china and some shite, you just have to do your research and you should be able to tell a good product from a bad one from fit and finish!!!

The company I work for owns our own factory in china, I design the products and one of our guys QC's the stuff during production, you have to keep on their case, they can make a quality product when they want to!

Yeah OK Ive seen some good products from China, sure. Personally though, with something like a car lift, I'd rather err on the side of a generalisation than be crushed by a beetle. Thats just me and my opinions though.

I edited my original post to say it can be abysmal anyway, cause I was wrong to generalise like that.

That's why you should make sure that it has a separate mechanical locking system - they're usually compressor driven and when raised the lift rests on the blocks, not on the hydraulics. In theory, the worst that can happen then is that your car'll get stuck in the raised position, so at least you'll still be alive to figure out a solution. All that said, I'd take something bulky and solid under there with me so that the car can fall on that and not on me.
