For those that don't know John's story I will let Lynne Kelleher fill you in......
On July 3rd Johnny Walsh – husband, father and hugelypopular GAA and soccer coach – came home from work and went out for his usualsummertime evening run with his wife Annemarie.
Three hours later he was being rushed from their home in Athlacca to CorkUniversity Hospital suffering from a Colloid Cyst in his brain.
After undergoing extensive surgery on his brain and a long spell in intensive care, he is currently in a wheelchair and is on a long, slow road of rehabilitation.
The father-of-two originally from Croom has been ahugely likeable presence in the motorcycle community over the past two decadesand in more recent years through his two sons, Mikie and Jake, he has been afamiliar smiling sight on the side-lines of soccer, hurling, rugby and GAApitches in Athlacca, Holycross and Bruff.
His recovery has been slower than initialmedical expectations due to complications but he is showing great determinationin getting through his daily and sometimes gruelling physiotherapy sessions inhospital to get sufficiently well for a place in the National RehabilitationHospital in Dun Laoghaire.
His wife Annemarie and sons, Jake and Mikie, parents, Reenie and John, sister Teresa and brother Jimmy and other familymembers - have been a constant support by his side through his on-going rehabilitation.
Now that you know the story behind this thread I thought some of you might like to support the fundraiser on November 10th. As you can see from the below flyer, John's local vintage club are also fundraising for another local man who, like John, has soaring medical bills and requirements.
I would love to see Eircooled members (and non members) coming along for the run, having some fun but most of all supporting Teresa's family as they do all they can to raise much needed funds. Their goal is to raise enough money to buy a specialised wheelchair, one that is perfect for John's needs right now and throughout his rehab - if they wait for one to be provided they have been told it will be over 8 months and that's just not right.
If you can't make it and would like to donate I said to Teresa that people can donate directly into my Paypal account and all monies raised this way will go directly to John's family.
My Paypal address is Cathal@mustbook.ie and if you are donating please note in the subject bar 'For John Walsh'.
