Darragh is right. To get something reasonable you need to start at least at €5000. You may get lucky and discover one that the owner hasn't a clue how much they're worth but my best advice is to be patient, keep saving and ask as many questions as possible. Don't buy without getting a second opinion. There's plenty of members around dublin who I'm sure would take a look with you if you asked.
Good luck

There is no such thing as a tidy up I'm afraid. Listen to the guys (apart from Rez cuz he got his for free) as they have great experience. A camper without an interior doesn't mean it will be cheap.......if that was the case we'd all be buying them and making our own interior. For €2k you'll get nothing but trouble. Also, there is no such thing as 'cosmetic' on an old camper because they'll all be rusty so before you can get to the pretties you'll have to do loads of welding. Any Bus requiring only cosmetics is probably a US/Aussie import but the price will reflect that. Sorry to put a downer on it for you but you have to be realistic - now if you do manage to get a solid Bus for €2k then hats off to you.

Best advice is to hang on, save a few quid and get Britt (Roadcow) in California to source a rust free one for you that genuinely only needs cosmetic work.

Good advice by Coxy there. You could always get in contact with Britt or Brittney about buying a bus.
See what he can get you for €2,000 which is roughly $2,700. Now is the time to be buying a bus in the
states. You'll get a better bairgain in winter. Britt source's great bus's for any budget.

You can always look at shipping it back in 6 months or more, that'd be roughly €2,500 for shipping.
I may be wrong on the price for shipping, the lads would know more as their at it more often.

And even with that it had/needs a new engine, tyres, front disk brake, gearbox mount, electrical overhaul (not done yet), oh, and some SERIOUS structural welding.
Thats just the tip of the ice-berg. With all the little bits adding up it'll have plenty of money thrown towards it by next summer. If it wasn't for Mac having so many parts available around the clubhouse, plus his expertise, there wouldn't be a chance of it being on the road.
Basically, even "free" VW campers require money and maintenance.
