A friend gave me an old car stereo but the CD player in it doesnt seem to be working. I spent an hour or so today putting in the speakers so I was a bit peeved about that. Anyway does anyone have a CD player head unit that theyre looking to sell? It must have a removable face and if it has an aux in on it, so much the better.

Check ALDI/LIDL they had a decent budget job recently, Aux in and Bluetooth for €70ish.

Theyre not at all complicated to wire up. Ive installed plenty of car stereos before so I know I did it right. I want 4x45w RMS. Im not going to go all the way to Cork for one though. It would cost me the price difference of a new one in petrol.

A 3000 watt amplifier would be around 3 standard rack units in a 19" rack and would use a lot more power than your cars alternator would put out, and would deafen you pretty quickly in the close confines of a car. There's this bullshit constantly cropping up in boy racer circles which is completely misleading and basically lies. There is industry standard RMS (Root Mean Square) watts, and there's Peak watts. Peak watts is the point in RMS watts at which the equipment fails. Obviously this figure is a lot higher than RMS watts. It can be a collossal figure when youre talking about a 12" sub, but that sub may only have a 100 watt RMS rating, which believe me, is plenty for a car. 4x45 watts RMS is what Im talking about, and it is loud enough.

Mac, thanks! I reckon I could wait until next week.

Sorry Dillon, I was just trying to illustrate the point that you're talking through your hole. The industry standard PA/DJ speakers are 300 watts (EV SX300). 3000 watts would be a large bin and top setup, used by maybe a band in a large venue who need some serious welly. Youre sure as fuck not going to have them in your van now, are you? I regularly used a Dynacord Cobra 8 cabinet line array for concerts and that was 7000 watts. Im a qualified sound engineer so if you want to get into a debate with me, fine.

Marv, what make is the CD player you have there?

That's it. I'm knocking on your door next time I'm 'home' in Ballyhooly, I'm going to call your bluff on this endless stream of apparent bullshit. :ROFLMAO:
