RLI 589 was restored in Kilbeggan, as far as I know. It was a round for a
couple of years. I think it was restored and owned by one of the lads
associated with Shanette Sheds.

Just after taking a look at that car. I'm back in Kilkenny for the weekend anyway. Both heater channels need a bit of work as does the wheel well and the offside gutter right at the back. Those door cards are just material stretched over the original cards and could easily be returned no normal. Elsewhere it's pretty sound as far as I could see. One piece windows worked properly and he had just finished power washing it as I arrived and they appered to not be leaking. No rust around the front window/vents . Under wings were ok but the fact that the rubbers were left on during the re-spray is worrying. It has potential but not at that price. The seller admitted he had no previous experience of beetles so wasn't sure what to price it and asked me for a sensible price once I stated I'd pass on it. Might be worth a viewing for someone if he goes with that price.

I think they were based in Athlone.

There was few VW clubs on the go back them, not to sure about the names but,Soutnren Volks Folks(still going strong), one based in Galway, West Coast bugs, there was also a club in the midland called,Midland Bugs.Or maybe it was the Bugweiser club that Cathal has mentioned, but I think that they were two separated clubs.
