I would have thought 1600 type 1 engined bus gearboxes were in the same "boat anchor" category of usefulness as the 1200 swing axle beetle gearbox and therefore both plentiful and basically worthless. Am I wrong?

not for much longer, with the price of scrap metal at the moment they are all being dragged out and crushed.

No metal there...just rust! :)

I hadn't realised how much the value of scrap metal has risen so much recently until about 2 weeks ago I had a skip in the garden and was emptying out the garage and yard of crap. No sooner had I got it full a knock came on the door asking if they could 'fish a few things from the skip, sir?'. Fire away I said. Came out 10mins later and the skip was half empty! :)

€200 per tonne I heard was the going rate at some places! And Hammon Lane is literally 2 mins around the corner from me. :eek:mfg:

At least they knocked, I was out with Ian a while ago in his garage. When he moved premises he put a few old engines and other scrap metal he had into the back of an old ford escort van he has.
We were talking in the yard before we left and i noticed that the back door of the van seemed to be open, over we went and the van was completely empty.

If you have old batteries they are making €500 a tonne, and copper is making very big money.

I've about 20 here at the moment.

Whats the average weight of a battery, about 18-20kg's? :)

And what about Aluminium? I've a full Audi A8 body, aluminium chassis for scrapping too.

I think I'll give up the day job for a week or two and do a proper clear out! ;)

Why do you think all the artistic metal statues are disappearing from the
road sides.

Catalytic convertors contain one of the most expensive precious metals.

Now aren't you glad you hung onto your silver and gold jewellery, what with
the recent all time highs of both gold and silver.

Ya, cabling very attractive to them, went to survey two vacant IDA units in Dublin recently, both need new electrical installation as all copper cabling stripped out, they used kango hammers and con-saws so new floors, walls & ceilings also in order.
