Mine has the 2 (spade and bolt) terminals on top. was on to the kilmac guy today and he told me to open it up and get the numbers off the regulator so he can get me a new one. the brushes look fine with about 9mm of meat left on them but the whole inside is coated in oil so not sure where that's coming from. if the new regulator doesn't help it'll be a rewind or replacement.
Its the plastic plug type i have,LUKE, Air passes through the alternator to cool the windings, but if you have oil in there it's probably coating the inside of your fanhousing as-well
.
No worries John. No joy so far with kilmac guy. He says a regulator can't be got anywhere and wants me to bring him the alternator to rebuild it. If it is the regulator that's knackered, what's he going to use to fix it???
So if i have to remove the alternator i might as well just have another one to replace it so i'm still looking for a replacement.
Luke he is talking out of his arse saying that a regulator cannot be got anywhere .just kampers have them .Jon White will have them or be able to get you one .they are not hard to fit
[h=1]Internal Voltage Regulator (55amp) VW Beetle 1974 on VW T2 Bay 1600cc 1974-1979[/h]JK Part Number: J10212 OEM Part Number: 043-903-803/F
On Starters, Alternators, and Generators I prefer to have them rebuilt by a reputable shop. Some of the new stuff that we get here in the US is utter crap.
