Mine has the 2 (spade and bolt) terminals on top. was on to the kilmac guy today and he told me to open it up and get the numbers off the regulator so he can get me a new one. the brushes look fine with about 9mm of meat left on them but the whole inside is coated in oil so not sure where that's coming from. if the new regulator doesn't help it'll be a rewind or replacement.

Its the plastic plug type i have,LUKE, Air passes through the alternator to cool the windings, but if you have oil in there it's probably coating the inside of your fanhousing as-well

No worries John. No joy so far with kilmac guy. He says a regulator can't be got anywhere and wants me to bring him the alternator to rebuild it. If it is the regulator that's knackered, what's he going to use to fix it???
So if i have to remove the alternator i might as well just have another one to replace it so i'm still looking for a replacement.
