66 Beetle repair panels

I,d be interested to know your opinion on the best source for good quality
repair panels for a 66 beetle. thanks

I was talking to Tom Lalley about these, he can get some and fit them. He says you shouldn't butt weld them. Give him a bell sure. Even if your only going to buy the repair panels.
And he'll only give you the best quality. Or try Jon White, Jon's sells good parts.

Sorry, have you a number for Tom, what company is he connected to. Why does he say no to butt welding.

I will be fitting them myself, so no worries there. The last heater channels, posts ect, panels I
used were from GSF. I was not impressed by the metal quality, is there a better source.

I can barely remember the whole thing he was telling me, he has some machine that creates a lip on both sides, and seam welds.
Can't remeber for sure, but sure always give him a bell.

I,d imagine thats the reason why he advocates no butt weld. Crimped edge would probably protect
the inaccuracy of a prepped butt panel from blowing through. Butt to butt needs good preparation, and
the swaged edge allows for a small bit of tolerence,

I'm not sure, he said he is getting a new machine from Germany to do it. Don't think its that small, could be a bigger version.

Expensive items swaging machines, he must be big into panel repairs.
Small edge swagers start at about 200-300 on ebay.

From what I gathered it was a few thousand

of hundred.

He,s at it full time then, on his own or what. V dubs, or all sorts.
