I think some coachbuilders in Europe used to convert them, Beutler maybe?

still though, for a '61 it's a fair mash-up of parts from different years.

There is after been a few of those four door beetle made as of late. The original four door beetle was first made by Rometsch, as a taxi, 28 or 30 of them were ever made as they were to costly to make, there is only four left to-day

Brendan is right, the "original" were build by Rometsch in Berlin. They were beautifully crafted but expensive to make as Rometsch was not authorized by VW to produce them and hence they needed to buy brand new beetles from the dealerships to build the taxis rather then sourcing parts / chassis / bodies directly from VW.

Portmarnock "Way way out"
I remember Emilios were building one a couple of years back, maybe 3 or 4 yrs actually. just doing it for themselves, don't know if it was ever completed though. He told me it took 3 beetles to sacrifice for it!! :(
