I bought this car last year and Trev towed it home. My plan was to fit 2 front wings, service it, sort the brakes and put it back into service as a daily driver but when I went to register it the VRT people wanted €990 to put one of those stupid reg plates on it. Obviously I told them to take a shite and drove it back to my place and that's where it has been since. In order to appeal the €990 figure I have to pay it first then appeal, with no guarantee of getting any of it back. I'm not going to do that so I have 2 options;
1: do a chassis swap or
2: sell it.
I'm going for option 2 right now as I have too many projects but if it doesn't sell it'll get a chassis swap later on but I'll keep it LHD as this is a rare car.
It's driving (1200cc) but the brakes need work as it has been off the road for 2yrs prior to me getting it. The chassis is perfect and overall the car is in good shape with a few patches but nothing major. The door pillars are getting weak but not rotted - a spray of waxoil would hold it back for a while. The front wings are badly rusted, with one of them worse than the other. It's had one new door a few yrs ago.
The horn and wipers are not working but as I've not gone through it I cannot tell you why. The interior light works as does the heated rear window, and reverse lights. The heater blows out plenty of heat under the back seat and onto the windscreen. The mk1 Golf GTi steering wheel is nice and chunky.
There is a stack of paperwork going back to when it was 1st registered in Germany in Jan 1986 - they were built in 1985 only. The history continues into England and then it stops when the UK owners brought it over here and parked it up.

I've been as honest as I can be about the Beetle and if I remember anything I'll add it in later. I'm open to offers for the car - the alloys do not go with it so BYO :D

The heater channels are solid as are the front and rear quarters so it's a perfect basis for a chassis swap - it saves you having to cut out years of rot and weld in new panels.

Pay the 990, thats a piece of history you are destroying, putting a rusty old Irish chassis on it:p

tim

Well it's no wonder we've never seen any of your cars Tim if that's how you put them back together. I'm no expert but I would always put the chassis under it :tease:
