For sale 1977 1200 standard beetle.

Hi everyone. Before I DoneDeal this I thought I would throw this up here in case any genuine enthusiasts might be interested.

This is a 1977 1200 standard beetle for sale. It had a replacement engine fitted by the previous owner about 2 years ago. It has just had a €500 mechanical overhaul and is ready to be used.
I bought the car in April this year, and when purchased the car had no interior and the brake and clutch pedals weren’t working.

I spent my summer evenings working on this car, fitting a replacement interior, and fixing up the pedal issues and various other jobs totalling many hours.

Having bought the car without the interior, I was able to see what work exactly was needed on the car. Thankfully no welding was required as the previous owner had new floor pans and heater channels replaced to a very good standard. The quarter panels behind both doors look original and are in very good condition.

This particular car is one of 15 beetles registered new to motor distributors in Dublin in July 1977. It along with the others were used for the first year as lease cars and were then sold on through the trade, this car being sold from castleisland in Kerry. Unbelievably, cars 339 wza( this particular car) , 340 wza, 341 wza and 342 wza, all remain still on the road 42 years later, a unique piece of Vw history in Ireland.

In summary , this is an extremely presentable solid Vw, that has had its paint compounded, polished and waxed and has come up well but certainly not concours standard. There is rust bubbling on both sets of rain channels and on the bottom of the drivers door. They probably won’t needed welding but would be an easy enough repair. But bear in mind all of the usual areas needing welding repair are already done. The bottom 6” of the car are rock solid.

It is very presentable and could easily be used as is. The new interior is fresh looking and a lovely place to be.

As the car wasn’t taxed or insured I haven’t been able to text drive the car but I will give the phone number of my mechanic to any serious buyer so that he will confirm the overall mechanical state of the car.

Please feel free to contact me for more details. I have a full photo record of the car before and after the interior was fitted which shows just how solid it is. It will be shown to anyone who comes to see the car.

Price reflects condition and as it is not priced at €7000, please don’t expect a €7000 car.
It has however probably 1 of the most solid cars this kind of money can buy.€4750 Ono

Car is located in Galway city. Please pm me or phone 0876376576.As I am having trouble uploading photos please email me @ petemurphy8@hotmail.com or what’s app me for more pictures.

Thanks

Peter.

Great ad Peter and bloody good price too. Nice to have some history from it’s early life and even better to know it’s one of the last Beetles that was built in Ireland.
Best of luck with the sale. I don’t expect it’ll hang around too long.

Pete, Background story is spot on. To add personal note, i bought 349 WZA red colour in 1978 ? for my father at windsor Auctions in Dublin. The lot were being sold off after their period of lease. Had black bumpers & black tail pipes. Did not have liner round engine so was very noisy. Good luck with sale. Eamonn

Thanks for that info Eamon. There were 5 Phoenix red, 5 ocean blue and 5 Miami blue all registered together.
