You will pay a price for an oval rear cut. AFAIK FBi in Wales/Swansea would likely stock one - at a hefty price. There's a chap on Volkzone doing a roof chop to a 70s beetles - it's either a split or oval rear window steel pressed outer section with the louvres etc n in the text it was remarked...

....your linkage might be very tight or near to seizing - increased pressure on the motor meaning it heats up n blows a fuse - of course being that inaccessible ye can't feel or get an infa red temp reading on it...or maybe a short in wiring?
