wanted:widened steel wheels

hi!
i was wondering if anyone if has,or knows of,widened/banded steel wheels for sale.for a 5x205 hub beetle,or mabey someone who can do a good job of widening a stock set? would appriciate any help,thanks

What 'J' are you looking for? careful with secondhand banded steels, the 9j wide fives on the back of my 62 are a bit wibbley wobbley at speed, last owner got 4 of them off ebay from the US, (2 got fooked out by his local garage last year as he had left them there).

Im looking for some for my buggy project but I might end up banding my own set!

Look at www.wide-wheels.co.uk - but their not cheap!

Theres always people looking for wide steels on VZi, never seems to be any for sale!

thanks,i not too sure what width to go.i wouldnt want tyres much wider than about 205 on the back,and dont want any narrower than about 165 0n d front.i can get 5 1/2 inch new ones for $70 in america,which i thought would b grand for the front,but postage is about $350 for four.what size do you think would fit under the back wings-if its lowered 1 spline?

I still have some original 356 Porsche wheels that were originally 4.5J but widened to 6J. They are 5x205 just like beetle.

You shouldn't be paying that much for postage, I bought my wheels in Florida and IIRC it was half that quote.

You won't find many in UK as they're said to be illegal. (welded rims)

I bet those look class. Our 356 has 5.5 chromies and the dish really helped. Any pictures?

I'm sure you can get 5.5s easily enough, Mangel don't make them anymore but Heritage have a new supplier -

I need these 2 for my 1959, but have 3 more in Holland that I hope will come over in a container at the end of December. Thought they were 7J, but someone explained me that you measure the inside rim which is 6J on these.

Heres 9j with a stretched 215/65!

stretch helps them fit under the arch and not rub too much, but Im stockheight at the rear!


I loved those 356 6js, pity theyre not solids, Im looking for a pair of 6j wide 5 solids for the back of my oval!

thatd be great,im fairly sure id buy them from you if that suits you-even two would do me,and i could try get two 5 1/2 new for the front
