As I'm sure many of you are aware, I buy scrap precious metals for a living.

If any of you have any old broken or unwanted gold jewellery and could use the extra money, send me a PM, or call me on 087-2919350.

but what would you do if you came across a genuine antique and not just some old tat? Would you buy it at scrap value and then sell it as an antique or would you buy it as scrap and then sell it as bulk scrap metal?

I tend not to buy antique jewellery. I tell people not to send me antique jewellery or jewellery that would be worth more in tact than it would be as scrap. For that reason, I really dont know what I'd do. I suppose it depends on the weight and the difference in value. If it was worth a lot more in tact, I suppose I'd factor that into account in the valuation and sell it on as is without melting it.

I dont know. I'd have to check. Its not precious metal so I wouldnt really have much of an interest in it.

Sorry airhead, I thought you said anything. I would have expected aluminium to be a precious metal. learn something new everyday.

I,ll hang on to my aluminium then, how about a ton of palladium:ROFLMAO:

Ross, your parents would love a ton of scrap aluminium dumped on the drive. I'm sure the resident's association would be well impressed too...

out of interest again, what's the difference between the service you offer and a pawn shop?

A pawn shop takes an item in as security for a loan. The person pays back the loan with interest and the item is returned to them, or sold if they dont pay back the loan. All I do is buy the metal and sell it for a profit. Simple as that.

And you're right, I dont think the folks would appreciate a ton of aluminium dumped on the driveway.

Tim, if you have a ton of Palladium, we'll talk! Probably worth about €1,500,000.

Copper has a good value if you have enough of it. A few hundred anyway. Not sure though cause I dont deal with it. Catalytic converters are a lot of effort for me but something I had considered. Maybe in the future I'll try them. DO you have some?

As for my pricing, I base my prices on the current market values, and pay a high percentage of that.

Ruairi is doing a website for me at the moment.
