For €4k you should easily be able to pick up a very nice car. Look out for dodgy repairs, rust on heater channels (conduits that go the length of the cars cab that double as the cill) and make sure all the engine's tinware is in place, for a start. Best thing to do is to get someone who knows a thing or two about beetles to come along with you and guide you. Where in Dublin are you?

Welcome to Eircooled. For 4k you should definitely get a good bug. Keep an eye on donedeal. It's updated regularly. Any idea of what kind of beetle you're after? Early or late or maybe 1302/3? If you're not sure I'd suggest you hang around here for a bit and get some more knowledge. You'll find plenty more 1200 beetles than 13's but obviously the 13 are slightly more powerful.
"What else to look out for?"
Rust, Rust, Rust.
Check heater channels, door pillars arround windows etc. Stay away from newish paint jobs. Unless there's detailed pics a paint job is usually hiding a multitude of sins!

Ask as many questions as possible. Don't be afraid it might sound stupid and DO NOT fall in love with the first one you view.
Good luck

Get somebody experienced to view it for you, I don't mean your uncle that did the ring of Kerry in one in '78, somebody that really knows them inside out.

€4k is a good budget, do you have a particular style or type in mind?

Welcome along, as the lads say 4k will get you something decent. If you can get yourself over to Stillorgan next wed evening for the Dublin meet pop along. I find its better to get advice when people can actually physically show you what to look for.

I would agree, get yourself over there. We can show you the bad points and what to look over. But as Justin said,
get someone who know's these cars. I would look at the UK or Europe too. Only €50 to vrt it. Just look out for rust
specialy due to rust, but also look out for filler. Makes sure the lines are nice and straight, and the gutters aren't full of filler.
If your buying a newly painted car, I would want photo evidence. You've got a nice budget, you'll get a solid car. That
might need a bit of work over the years, which is the joys of a classic car.

Don't know anything about this car, but looks nice. Would want photo's.
