[Wanted: Parts] Second hand T2 2000cc long shaft starter

Hi all,

Have my 2000cc 1979 T2 starter going through a refurb but I am having an issue sourcing an armature, its for a long shaft starter. Any ideas in where I might get one or a second hand starter that I could take the armature from?

Appreciate any feedback.

New seems cheap. Probably cheaper than a refurb and new armature.

Thanks Tim: I have that bookmarked. I'll check it out, might ring them to confirm that it's for the 2000cc late bay, think its suitable.

i done know what armature would suit a t2 2l starter; have you tried or looked at any of the early T25 aircooled starters, or the 'B2 passat' range?? I have had some 'luck' with rebuilding/refurbing a 'worked for previous owner; just not ffor me) dead diesel t25 starter; a working but surplus to anything I now own; a B2 Passat 1.6d starter was on the shelf ; bendix n housing n solenoid didn't seem interchangeable....long story short I used the armature on brush pack off the b2 starter in the T 25 starter, it was like 100% afterwards....


Edit; I remember initially weighing up the prospect (folly??) of bustin apart a perfectly working starter( for a car I no longer own) to revive a dead starter, for a car I now do; I read (on the starter body) nlooked up the part no's of each; the no's at the end didn't seem 'that far apart' - so I proceeded with the disassembly....

....might help you in your search if you intend on continuing on refurbing your starter...

An alternative is an adapter plate plus a golf tdi starter from circa late 90s early 00s. They're 2kw. You'd start a tractor with them!!
