Didn't I see a pic of a 60's bug lying in a hedge on here somewhere - I can't find it and can't remember whether it was 65 onwards. As you say long shot but worth asking. If nothing shows up, you could modify a 70's chassis to take the the earlier beam. I seem to remember seeing some sort of bracket thing for sale or if framehead was rotten you could change it to the earlier type
