Hi all,

I've been living in Pakistan for several years and I have a '67 Beetle. I was hoping to drive it home, but now my application for an Iranian visa has been turned down.

Now I want to ship it to Ireland.

Can anyone advise me on the documentation required, shipping rates, potential problems.

Thanks!

I'd doubt there are too many here with direct experience of importing from pakistan.
maybe the irish embassy could offer some advice?

Any pictures of vw life in pakistan? I for one would be interested in seeing how things are over there.:)

the main shipping lines that sail in and out of pakistan would have all the info you require ie hapag lloyd /maersk/etc

I wish.... :)

Priced the shipping today. Not sure if it's worth it, but they're looking for just under 1,800 to ship the car from Islamabad to Dublin via Karachi.

you never leve your buddy behind if you do you will allways regret it

how much would a similar type beetle cost you here as a replacement ????
think long and hard

Well. The issue is that I'm now quite keen to get home and to make the most of the few weeks I have left here. I went in to a shipping company today. They said I have to meet with the deputy minister of commerce and get a "no objection certificate" from him. This could take weeks, and will most likely involve sitting in some bureaucrat's office for days on end. I think I'm gonna sell... but will let you know if I change my mind. If I do sell her, I'll do some road trips here in Pakistan first. Don't know how much the replacement would cost. I paid 1,700 Euro for it here, but I've done some work on it.. totaling about 500 Euro. If you add the shipping cost, that brings it to 4,000. I reckon I could pick up a half decent replacement in Ireland for that.
