Damn it, yours was probably the last one. :D

I ordered a leisure battery from Lucas direct on the 18th (March) and it still hasn't shown up yet. Grrr.

I've bought a couple of small things from Halfrauds recently (like less than a tenner per purchase) and asked for the AXA discount, flashed the card and all. They just applied the 10% "Corporate discount" rate. I let it slide because I already felt cheap enough looking for a discount on a small purchase. However, when I bought my jack from them (€70 or so list price) I spoke up and made sure I got the full 15% AXA discount.

The staff aren't particularly well trained as I'm sure you've discovered, so you have to educate them from time to time ;)

I found they have different rates depending on the product, Hammerite for example has no discount but Halford's Pro brand tools have 15%.

if you have an AXA policy you are entitled to an AXA "discount card" that ensures discounts in a few shops, Halfords being one of them. The rate of discount veries according to whatever deal AXA have brokered with the shop. In the case of Halfords, it's 15%.

Justin, I didn't know the discount varied between products and wasn't just a flat rate across everything. As I said, I let them slide with the 10% before but the till monkeys never pointed out the different discount rates. I was under the impression that when I asked for the AXA discount I was just getting the 10% arbitrarily because it was easier than thinking on their behalf...

you can buy headlamp bulbs for about the €2.80 from regular motor factors all day every day, with no discount. It just goes to show the profiteering Halfords are up to with the unsuspecting punter. Still though, at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon, where else are you going to go?

Tools. Halford's Pro tools are really good quality and great value even before the discount.

And as you say - welding tips and wire, axle stands, timing strobes etc. etc. on a Sunday evening is very handy... sometimes.

If you have a Halfords trade card you get 60% off a battery. I just got one the other day. Same with all "service" components, then it becomes less and less for less servicey type components with nothing off bicycles etc. The staff are useless though and sometimes you have to make sure you get the discount as more often than not they give you the "staff" discount which is only 10%. My attitude is to kick up a fuss each time and accept that the truth is if I wsn't getting 60% off i'd shop anywhere but there. Also if you have the old trade card insist on a new one - they don't go out of date.
