FOR SALE: 1967 Baja Bug Project

The Baja features a fully restored body-shell with an extensive roll cage. The body was stripped back to bare metal and fitted with new quarter panels and channels. With the exception of the Baja nose, the shell is 100% steel. Absolutely no rust! It has been primed, filled and painted. The front filler cap has been filled in, as has the original radio antennae hole

There is an extensive roll cage running from front to rear bulkhead and tied into the A and B pillars. It's designed in such a way that it can be tied into the front beam, front bumper and rear engine cage. It also has mounting points for long travel rear shocks

  • Oil cooler and large reverse light fitted to the roof
  • Spotlamps mounted on the A pillars on welded brackets
  • Original front fuel tank has had the top cut off to provide additional luggage space
  • Luggage compartment has been fitted with D-rings to provide lashing points
  • 100 litre fueltank where the back seat used to be (With diesel power, should give a range of about 1000 miles!!)
  • CB Radio
  • Passenger Jesus bar

The body comes with window glass, spare doors, a selection of carpets and all the other bits and pieces removed from the original donor vehicle

The floor pan is a 1967 king and link/swing axle. This needs restoration but comes with replacement floor panels. The front beam has been widened by 6 inches and features 4 inch taller towers

The body could be bolted up to your standard pan if your own body is past it!

€1,500

(I had planned to convert the car to diesel and I have a scrapped, 1.9 normally aspirated VW Vento with a good engine that I acquired as a doner vehicle. This has a suitable stereo, seats and other odds and ends. I will sell this for a small additional cost if required )

Saw this car earlier in the year, lots of potential. Lots of work done on it.

I know this project from the get-go, I helped Luan tow it home from Lancashire before he got into the resto/beefing up process. The amount of work gone into this is phenomenal and the forward-thinking, planning and future-proofing in it means that this car could be used for some serious off-roading and come out the other end ready for more!!

It's a shame he has to sell it but with the pans welded in and an engine you'd be ready for some summer fun!

this is on the ferry coming home, the trusty cockroach corolla did the honours on that journey too!

and what it looked like on its wheels part way though the strip-down:

Thanks Trev

It was originally concieved for a trip to the Sahara and was to be as simple, tough and reliable as possible with a three day fuel and water range

There are loads of little details like the twin battery setup - too many to go into

Anyway, it's a tough little bastard...

Below are some more random pics

All the same, good luck with the sale. It seems like you're asking very little given all the work that's gone into it - every photo you look at there seems to be a pile of fabrication involved :rate10:

I love walking up to owners of Ovals and telling them that their pristine 1952 would make a nice Baja

"Y'know, they got the wide five wheels and the king and link front end an' all..."

I'm not selling this to anyone who wants to lower it and put fuchs on it!! :)
