[For Sale: Car] Early Bay T2 Westfalia Camper 1971

SOLD

After years of fun, 2 Eireballs and many a good time I’ve decided to part with my van.
I’m hoping it’ll be going to a good new home that will enjoy it as much as I have.

The van:
1971 Westfalia Early bay LHD – imported by Roadcow in 2008.

MOT’d until April 2013 and UK Tax exempt.

Exterior :
This van has never been welded!

The underside was rust protected in the US with a thick coat of ‘Stone chip’ and is in great shape.
Please have a look at the pictures though they don’t do it justice.

All crossmembers, jacking points, wheel arches, belly pans and floor are in exceptional condition.

The paintwork is completely original and the paint is in the condition you might expect after 40 years. There are chips and scrapes but there is nothing other than a little surface rust in any of the panels.

All doors are original, please have a look at the clearances on all the door gaps and joints in the pics.

The original heating equipment is all in place and works really well.

Interior:
Westfalia ¾ width R&R bed, plus the original poptop bed and front canvas bunk.

Poptop canvas has been replaced and treated to waterproof.

Bed and Seats have been recovered in black material to protect the original Westfalia yellow leatherette which is underneath. Also has the Westy table and side units.

The kitchen unit has been replaced by one I made myself with storage, built in 2 ring hob and space for 2 large Camping Gaz cylinders. I still have the Westy cabinet in storage if preferred.

There are 2 strip lights in the roof and reading lights at the rear.
2 x 12v connectors are fitted for charging in the rear plus a further 12v hidden in under the dashboard to connect up a SatNav.

The dash is fitted with a kenwood stereo with modern speakers in the doors.
An iPod connector is wired into the glovebox there is also an audio jack and a USB port available.

All the leisure electrics are connected via a fusebox under the bed to a split charge kit and leisure battery in engine bay. The leisure electrics were fitted so that a 240v hook-up could be added easily in future.

A proven diesel Eberspacher is fitted to the passenger side floor with an extended exhaust and silencer underneath.
The wiper washer bottle has been replaced with an electric one. The old bottle is now the fuel tank for the Eberspacher.

A new rev counter was recently fitted into dummy panel in the dashboard console.

Engine - 2110 Type 1

This engine is less than 2 months old, built as a 2110 by Dave (Caddy)

On the rolling road it recorded 87BHP but larger venturis in the twin IDF’s this engine will go much further.

New parts
2 new cylinder heads
Counterweighted crank – This has been balanced as a single piece with the flywheel.
Pistons and Barrels
All bearings replaced
Cut to length pushrods

Other parts
Weber IDF 40 Twin carbs.
CB manifolds and hex linkage.
All stock VW tinware which has been media blasted and powder coated in black.
Full flow oil to external oil filter.
009 Distributer
NOS heat exchangers
4 into 1 exhaust
Stainless steel muffler.
Single terminal alternator.
Case –
Bought new 4 years ago as 1776. Has done around 5k miles since.
Resized and clearance’d by Caddy for 2110. Hasn’t been line bored.

The only thing that is taking away from this van is the paint work. If you’re looking for a van to go camping in tomorrow this is the one. It will give years of good fun as is.

With a re-spray it could be outstanding.

I know that the big 2110 engine isn’t for everyone so I’m offering to sell with 2 options.

Van including the 2110 Engine £9500

Van with no engine £6500

Please PM me if you’re interested.

Thanks
Adrian
