It is with a heavy heart that I put this car up for sale. I purchased the car in 2008 and it's been part of the family ever since. The car was built on April 20th 1953 and shipped to Ireland in CKD form. It was first registered on June 10th 1953 to a Patrick Lynch, Money Farm, Stradbally, Co. Laois. It was purchased by his employer at the time. It remained in his possession until around 1980 when it was purchased by Derek Sheane. It sat with Derek until around 1989 when it was purchased by Paul Cotter in Cork. Paul spent many years having the car restored. During that time (late 90's) I stumbled across it mid resto while looking to buy an old bug. It wasn't for sale. In 2008 I called back to Paul only to find the car for sale. I snapped it up that day.
I've had many great times with the car but in recent years, I have not had the space with the garage filled with another classic and kids bikes etc. It has sat in my buddy's shed in Clonakilty for the past 3-4 years where I have not even seen it.
It's time for someone else to enjoy it.
My plan is to take it out of that shed next March and get it home, clean it up and squeeze it into my garage while I advertise it in the usual places.
I'm just putting it up here first in case there is a real enthusiast who wants it.
I'm asking €20k. It's hard to put a number on something but I think it's worth that all day long given it's rarety (I believe it to be somewhere in the top half a dozen oldest Irish registered Beetles still on the road). Anything less than that and I'd regret selling it (I'll probably regret it anyway). As such, I won't be accepting offers below this.
The car has also made an appearance in the movie "Stella Days" and has had a full spread in Irish Vintage Scene.
I also have a lot of research done on the history of the car which I can pass on to the next owner.
As for the car, it's painted in British Racing Green (Original colour would have been L19 Atlantic Green). There is a later engine in the car (60's I think). I know where the original engine is but that's a whole other story. Assume it's not with the car. The car is in good condition (hopefully!! It was when I last saw it). It's not a 10/10 car and was not a 10/10 resto but still turned heads wherever it went.
I'm based in Cloughduv, Co. Cork.
Give me a call on 0872290716 if you are interested in purchasing the car.
